I'm a 30 something year old technology and wiki enthusiast. I started this project after working heavily on the
RocWiki adding content, taking pictures, writing reviews and re-organizing.
Instead of writing anything more, look at
my old bio page on the RocWiki.

2008-09-02 17:55:30 Here are a few suggestions. If anyway possible I think it would be a great idea if you could add options in the edit for renaming pages and deleting pages. This helps make it easy to keep the wiki clean (I am sure PhilipNeustrom would be willing to basically give you everything that would allow you to do this). Also i think people should have to be logged in to make comments, just my personal opinion (basically it will give wiki more credibility). —132.236.122.40
2008-09-02 18:59:51 I have allowed non users to edit and add comments because the wiki is so early, I don't have a userbase. This way even the laziest user can make a contribution. When there is data worth protecting, accounts will be required again. It's also rather ironic you make these statements without being logged in (or perhaps you're proving your point). —TravisO ... Login is now required because of spambots
2008-09-28 22:41:47 how do i do a redirect on this wiki, is that built into this one? Thanks —MattHh
2008-11-09 12:17:00 I was wandering what your opinion is on the index pages. Most of the wikis I know of give a brief description followed by the list. Here is an example
http://daviswiki.org/Beauty_Salons_and_Barber_Shops. So that was the frame of reference i had. —MattHh
2009-01-31 23:00:45 made some changes to the front page. I basically wanted to make it more appealing to the eye and more of an introduction rather than a list. Also i know that when Davis Wiki launched, about a month later there was a ton of flyers posted all over the college campus which really made the site boom with lots of edits, do you think this would be a good idea for the ithaca wiki (do the same for cornell and ithaca college), it might be a lot of work though, so i don't know, just a thought. —MattHh
2009-02-03 18:24:29 I love the front page changes, I haven't added any pictures lately because my new digicam broke and I haven't sent it in for warranty repair yet. I think freebie advertising is a great idea and actually it crossed my mind before I started the Wiki but I took a "if you build it they will come" attitude and wanted to get some content into the site before I tried to convince other people to jump on the bus but I think we've hit that point now and think it would help us. PS: perhaps we should meet up sometime, I actually go to Pixel in Collegetown fairly often (weekly). —TravisO
2009-02-12 22:58:44 I just came from Davis where the wiki has become an institution. It's the first place people go to search out restaurants, barber shops, etc. Which is especially useful in a transient university town like Davis/Ithaca. I'd recommend getting some people to knuckle down and fill in the sections that people are most interested in. There may need to be a critical mass of usable info before the site really is on anyone's radar. Maybe there's some kinds of undergrad/grad student internet/social activism communities that could be tapped into to get the ball rolling? Maybe facebook events that invite specific cliques to contribute describing whatever they're into? —mvd
2009-03-07 09:47:45 Hi Travis, I have take the liberty to interwiki link the other western NY cities. As a major (
Nr 3}
RocWiki contributor I have taken an interest in helping other Western NY wikis as well. It has been a great education for me to learn about Rochester and then
Buffalo. I am happy to share some of the content/work I did for Rochester while recovering from cancer surgery last summer/fall. —BradMandell
2009-03-10 14:42:51 Yes, I did recognize your name from RocWiki. Have you thought of creating a Google or Yahoo Group for contributor sharing, admin, and conflict resolution? It might even be useful to break them out into separate groups. —BradMandell
